Game Dev Competitions

Game development competitions can be extremely important when it comes to growing your brand, or expanding your resume to show AAA companies just what kind of skills you've got.

Most of the competitions have some sort of a time crunch that can be as little as 24-hours, or as long as 9 months!

If you are starting your game design career, then I would suggest you start with the shorter game jams.

Most of the competitions give you some sort of a theme or requirement, which takes a lot of the guess work out of it.

Instead, all you have to separate yourself from the rest of the developers is your imagination and game design skills.

What better way to showcase your talents?

If you are choosing the AAA career path, then winning or even placing in a game jam would help to make up for a lack of related experience on your resume, which is the biggest piece that will either
get you the job or lose you the job.

If you are building your brand, then you can enter the competitions with your company name and allow everyone involved the chance to get to know what your brand is for the first time.

One such competition is The Game Development World Championships.

This is an annual event that gives the developers a chance to submit their games anytime between January 27th to September 30th.

The only stipulation for this event is that your game must not have been published before 2017.

The perks of winning this large event is a paid trip to Finland and Sweden to meet and greet with top game development companies.

Also, you get to declare yourself the World Champion of Game Development!

I believe I would have to make a Super Bowl stylized ring to go along with that title.
